To Blast or Not to Blast?

To Blast or Not to Blast? July 31, 2011

Blasting irrelevant content to your email subscribers is one of the biggest email marketing mistakes you can make!! But, we’ve all heard, despite the stigma of email being a middle-aged technology, it it still useful and universally accepted. And hey, you can’t sign up for any other social media account like facebook, twitter, or linked in without an email address. Still, while the medium is fairly, well, neutral, it’s the content in the email that will either make people want to share it or delete it.

What are the worst mistakes you can make with email marketing? Actually, the biggest mistake that small businesses owners make…they get a list and send out a batch of emails to the entire list. Same as direct mail. Way to target market!  It’s an invasion of privacy. Ever heard of the circular file? Umm, the same principle in the digital world. There isn’t anything worse that you could do than blast out an email to everyone on your list.

Taking shortcuts in the long run is time consuming, expensive, and people then expect to receive spam from you. You need to build your email list organically, with an opt-in that integrates with your website, facebook, twitter, or linked in. Promise short, digestable information that can spark a conversation on facebook or twitter.  We can help you get started. Contact Vogue Media today to see how we can help you refine your email strategy. And yes, I used the word “umm”. This is my blog, not a thesis.
