Career Development
Career Development at Berks Technical Institute September 23, 2011
On September 22, 2011, Pennsylvania State Police Trooper, John T. Yount visited the Berks Technical Institute in Wyomissing, PA to speak to my Mid-Term Career Development students about a career path in law enforcement. His presentation was so engaging that students who hadn’t even considered that career path were on the edge of their seats.
Trooper Yount spoke about his personal decision making experience and how he began his now 18 year career as a Trooper, from when he first started at the Police Academy to his duties as a member of the SWAT team. He offered insights into the diverse and multifaceted duties of a trooper, as well as the range of specialty career positions that exist within the law enforcement infrastructure, not just in our local barracks, but throughout the state of Pennsylvania. Trooper Yount also called attention to programs and partnerships that exist within our community, and highlighted what an honor it is to represent the State Police as well as the citizens of our commonwealth.
The Career Development course that I teach is one of the first required general education classes at the Institute. It introduces students to the opportunities available to them, and within just a few weeks, empowers them to reach within themselves to cultivate the self-motivation and positive image required to reach their goals. The success of this event is truly reflective of what makes the Berks Technical Institute special. The ability to network with area professionals and forge personal connections helps to ensure our students have access to the most informative means available to explore their interests. The staff, instructors, and directors at Berks are committed to facilitating an informative yet intimate atmosphere which really enables students to thrive. I am excited to be a part of it.
Berks Technical Institute is a 2-year, accredited, Associate’s Degree granting College, similar to a community college. For more information, click here.
